The third week of the NFL season is complete and there were many unexpected wins from different teams. The Panther's routing of the Raiders 36-22 was one of the biggest upsets alongside the Vikings dismantling the Texans 34-7. However, certain coaches had underwhelming performances this week; Doug Pederson’s Jaguars were embarrassed by Sean McDermott’s Bills 47-10 on Monday Night Football, Shanahan’s Niners fell to 1-2 after a 27-24 loss to the Rams, and Mike McCarthy is under fire once again after the Cowboys looked flat in a 28-25 loss to the Ravens.

Now almost a quarter of the season has passed, more and more coaches are on the hot seat as they fail to meet expectations. Sportsbetting.ag has created odds for the first coach to be fired, some of the names on the list may surprise you.

Mike McCarthy

The Dallas Cowboys hired Mike McCarthy in 2020 after parting ways with Jason Garrett after his 9 ½ year tenure as coach. Mike McCarthy was considered a hire that would stabilize the Cowboys Franchise, as his time with Green Bay saw him finish with a 125-77 record (61.8%) and a Super Bowl win in 2010. McCarthy has brought the Cowboys plenty of success in the regular season with 3 straight seasons finishing 12-5, However, his postseasons have been far from successful as the Cowboys were the first team in NFL History to lose to a 7th seed in the playoffs. The Cowboys lost more than they gained in free agency, which is clear this season as they have started 1-2. The Cowboys have a tough schedule ahead, so I can see Jerry Jones finally moving on if the Cowboys' troubles continue.

Kevin Stefanski

The Browns initially felt like they struck gold when hiring coach Kevin Stefanski in 2020, who had the first winning season for the Browns (11-6) to pair with an NFL Coach of the Year. That same year the Browns nearly made an AFC championship appearance as the Chiefs outlasted the Browns in a close 22-17 game. Stefanski would find his stride again leading the Browns to another 11-6 record in 2023, but another loss in the postseason to a young and fiery Houston Texans. In classic Browns fashion, they possibly made one of the worst trades in NFL history, trading for Deshaun Watson and guaranteeing him 230 million dollars in his deal. Watson has looked horrendous as the Browns are currently 1-2 this season, and if this run of form continues Stefanski could see his departure from the Browns.

Doug Pederson

When Doug Pederson announced that his return to football would be with the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans were excited to see what the SuperBowl winning coach could do. The “Philly” magic was in the air during his first season as a 6-game win streak following a 3-7 start gave the Jaguars a playoff spot by winning the division for the first time since 2017. The cracks formed early in 2023 as Pederson’s Jaguars went from flying high at 8-3 to clawing to a 2nd-place finish in the division at 9-8. Despite having a Healthy Trevor Lawerence, the Jaguars look lost as an organization, and the 47-10 loss to the Bills in week 3 raises the alarm for the Jaguar's ownership. If Doug Pederson can't win many games this season I can easily see the organization parting ways with him sooner rather than later.

Brian Daboll

The Belichick disciple got off to a hot start with the Giants as they went 7-2 to start the season as well as their first playoff win since Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants have not looked the same since that 2022 season, the most ecstatic fans got was when Giants' third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito came in on short notice, won three games in a row, and passed for 8 touchdowns. In week 2 of the season, the Giants made history for the wrong reasons, becoming the first team to score 3 touchdowns and allow 0 touchdowns, but still losing to the Commanders 21-18. The Giants surprised many by beating the Browns 21-15, which may have just given Daboll more time. The Giants don’t have an easy schedule ahead of them, so if the Giants continue down this path Daboll won’t be there much longer.
