Both Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye will play in the Patriots' preseason opener on Thursday, according to head coach Jerod Mayo.

With the New England Patriots' preseason opener just two days away, the team is in the process of planning the distribution of reps. That includes at the quarterback position, where some decisions have already been made.

Addressing the media before Tuesday's training camp practice, head coach Jerod Mayo said "the plan" is for Jacoby Brissett to start against Carolina Panthers on Thursday night. At the same time, the team expects all four quarterbacks on the roster to play.

That includes rookie third overall pick Drake Maye, although his exact workload is still to be determined. "Drake will play," Mayo said. "When he gets in the game, we'll talk about that. But he will play in the game."

Mayo added that beyond the quarterbacks, Patriots fans can expect to see most of the roster on Thursday night, at least to some extent. "Everyone who is healthy enough to play in the game will play in the game," Mayo said.

"As of today, that's the plan - to have all those guys out there playing," Mayo explained. "Once again, it goes back to competing. So yesterday you guys saw the live tackling period and things like that, that I think is very important. You don't want the first time these guys have to get hit or hit someone else to be in the preseason game. So we got to see what these guys can do with live action."
