Zay Flowers’ pre-draft visit with the Patriots sounds more like an orientation

Zay Flowers had a pre-draft meeting with the Patriots on Wednesday, and reportedly spent the day with offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

NFL pre-draft meetings can consist of almost anything. Interviews, physical testing, medical testing, and more. When it comes to the Patriots' meeting with Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers on Wednesday it sounds like the focus was something else - preparation.

It was also probably exhausting for the three-time All-ACC wideout. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Flowers "landed in Boston at 6 a.m. from an overnight Vegas [where he had been meeting with the Raiders] flight and went straight to the Patriots facility."

Once in Foxborough, he got right to work. The Patriots had Flowers "spend the day learning the offense with Bill O’Brien on his visit" according to Pelissero.

It's not unheard of for the Patriots to go through their playbook with a wide receiver prospect. In 2019 they did something similar with N'Keal Harry. Of course, the Patriots ended up drafting Harry 32nd overall that year.

This also wasn't the first time Flowers has been exposed to the Patriots' offensive playbook. He was on their team at the Shrine Bowl back in January, and got exposure to their concepts there.

Overall, the Patriots have had plenty of chances to get familiar with Flowers during the pre-draft process. Not only have they met with him after working with him at the Shrine Bowl, they also attended his Pro Day.
