The Patriots were on the practice field once again on Wednesday in shoulder pads and shorts this time. Here are some of the observations made by the assembled media down in Foxboro.
Slow down
Today’s practice was almost exclusively 11-on-11 periods. A good amount of those were around walk-through pace. It definitely seemed like an adjustment day, working through what the team has been seeing on film this week.
— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 3, 2022Much slower pace to practice today.
— Zack Cox (@ZackCoxNESN) August 3, 2022
Mac Jones went 6-for-6 in 7-on-7s and 10-for-12, but the lack of a full-speed pass rush made life a lot easier for the offense.
Still ended inauspiciously with a throwaway and a sack on Jones' final two dropbacks.
Bailey Zappe: 5/6; 12/16Much slower tempo to #Patriots practice on Wednesday in shells. Wouldn’t look too much into results, with emphasis on correcting mental mistakes. Offensive scheme had the same look as the first two days in pads.
— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 3, 2022Largely a jog through shells practice for Patriots. Assume they’ll go pads and hard tomorrow.

Offense still clunky in that setting. Hoyer back but limited. Stevenson out after dealing with something yesterday.Patriots back in shells and tempo was noticeably slower today. Not quite walkthrough pace but not much higher than that.
— Paul Perillo (@pfwpaul) August 3, 2022Lighter morning in shorts and shells for the @Patriots on Wednesday, following their longest practice of camp. Slower pace after two days in pads to start the week. @nflnetwork’s Scott Pioli was among the attendees, pictured here with director of pro scouting Steve Cargile. pic.twitter.com/ByAB6RISU1

#Patriots training camp Day 8:
— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 3, 2022

🏈Sacks: Judon, Wilson, Ray, Pharms Jr., Team
🏈Offense still can't run the ball, win in the red zone.More:

🏈Mac went 1/2 with 2 sacks in the red-zone period, but 9/11 with an INT overall in 11-on-11s.
🏈Jakobi Meyers, Kristian Wilkerson and Ty Montgomery inhaled targets.
🏈Tons of Montgomery today. He saw 7 touches between RB and WR.

🏈Belichick said the staff wanted to correct mistakes from the past 2 days. That meant heavy outside/inside zone runs.
🏈Mitchell's INT was an apparent miscommunication between Parker and Mac.
🏈Josh Bledose again took some first-team snaps with McCourty limited today.Offense ended practice against the defense in the red zone. Mac Jones’ group looked disjointed again. Their three reps:
— Mark Daniels (@MarkDanielsPJ) August 3, 2022
- Bourne for the touchdown
- Blown up by Judon so throwaway
- Sack by Mack WilsonAdrian Phillips, Marcus Jones and Kyle Dugger had pass breakups today. Dugger's came in the end zone.

Patriots end practice by singing happy birthday. I’m guessing it’s not for Brady
— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) August 3, 2022J.J. Taylor just scored a touchdown on a screen and did a summersault in the end zone
— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 3, 2022Marcus Jones is squarely in the mix to be the primary punt returner. For those confused by the wording here.
