The Patriots were on the practice field once again on Thursday and back to wearing full pads. Here are some of the observations made by the assembled media down in Foxboro.
Offense still scuffling
Mac Jones went 7-for-10 in competitive 11-on-11 reps. The offense was a little better… but still up-and-down in those periods.

Sixteen plays. One sack. One pressure leading to a QB scramble. Two throwaways. Three run stuffs. One miscommunication between Jones and Jonnu Smith.Mac Jones finishes 14-of-19 in 11v11s and 3/3 in 7v7s.

Better day for him, but the offense struggled again at the end of practice in the red zone. We saw two run stuffs, two plays blown up by the pass rush and a dropped TD (Taylor) in seven playsMac Jones goes 4/6 against the starting defense in 11-on-11s. Some progress for the offense:

- Play-action pass into flat
- Meyers slant
- Sack
- Run stuff
- Play-action throwaway
- Nixon slant
- Swallowed-up screen
- Successful run
- Incompletion to Jonnu after a hand signalSome good reps by Tre Nixon and Jon Jones during 1v1s. Tough period for Tyquan Thornton, who was blanketed by Jones and had an apparent miscommunication on a rep vs. Shaun Wade. Mac Jones looked frustrated after that one.

Jakobi Meyers also shook Jack Jones with a great route. The #Patriots starting D-line is whipping the O-line to start another 11-on-11 period. This run game is atrocious so far.

1-on-1 pass rush highlights:
— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 4, 2022
- Josh Uche stole some souls, went 3-0.
- Christian Barmore went 2-1-1 with tough battles against Mike Onwenu.
- Nice periods for David Andrews, and Justin Herron.Christian Barmore just used a lethal club move to discard James Ferentz in 1v1s. Used a similar move to gain an advantage on Michael Onwenu as well. Basically you have to double him or he's not getting blocked right now. #Patriots
— Khari Thompson (@kdthompson5) August 4, 2022Couple notes on OL/DL one on ones:
— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 4, 2022
- Two quality reps by David Andrews vs Godchaux and Ekuale
- Justin Herron has stood out. Clean win over Ronnie Perkins.
- Gave a slight win for LaBryan Ray vs Trent Brown
- Strange held his own vs Barmore. Barmore and Onwenu exchanged WsCouple good reps from Josh Uche in 1-on-1s. Onwenu also held up well against Christian Barmore, who's been a menace in those drills this week.

Also saw wins by Wynn and Herron over Ronnie Perkins.
Billy Yates pulled Strange aside for pointers after a rep vs. Lawrence GuyOther notes from the day
Matthew Slater has a hose and is soaking down the rookies. A Foxboro tradition like no other.

— Zack Cox (@ZackCoxNESN) August 4, 2022Busy day for Jakobi Meyers and Jonnu Smith, who combined to catch 10 of Jones' 17 completions (five each). https://t.co/NdlturPqcg
— Zack Cox (@ZackCoxNESN) August 4, 2022Practice is wrapping up after a hot one here at Gillette. Davon Godchaux and the defense controlled team periods once again. Tre Nixon with a few grabs in 11s that caught the eye. Offense still very much a work in progress. #Patriots
— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 4, 2022Jahlani Tavai just went down with an injury. Limping off with some help now. Looks like leg/foot injury. #Patriots
