No one likes a neighborhood narc.
According to WGME, policy in South Portland, ME of using citizen photos to help enforce ordinances and issue fines is facing stiff pushback and turning neighbors on each other.
Last week, One of these narcs took a photo of an alleged dog ordinance violation on Willard Beach and sent the “crime” to the city, leading to a $35 ticket being mailed to the dog’s owner.
The charge: Having a dog ball on the beach.
The ticket ended up being rescinded by the city, but rangers allege the dog owner violated the no dog toys on the beach rule. The photo appeared to show the dog owner speaking with someone on the beach with her dog watching from the side. The photo also appears to show a “small ball” on the ground near her dog.
The dog owner who received the fine says she worries it will spur more "vigilante surveillance."
Toucher & Rich have plenty of stories of terrible neighbors to share while also taking phone calls from listeners.
