  • Joe Murray and Dan Lifshatz are THE BANKROLL BOYS and they join Toucher & Rich for their weekly segment. Fred asks why the preseason is so easy to bet on compared to regular season football games.

Fred Toucher: Why is preseason football so easy to bet on, guys?

Dan Lifshatz: It’s not that it’s so easy to bet on. It’s that you can make a good amount of money if you are making sure you pay attention and you’re making sure you beat the line. For instance, when it came out yesterday that the Cleveland Browns were going to start Deshaun Watson in the game on Friday, that line was Jacksonville -3.

Once Watson was declared the starter for the game and said he was going to play a couple series, that line swung from plus 3 to -1.5, -2 some places now. So you’re getting some really good CLV. You basically take a look at the games all on Friday. Atlanta or Detroit was originally a 3-point dog. Now their pick ’em. Philly was a 3-point dog, they’re now a 1-point favorite.

You just kind of go down the path. You’re going to get some really good numbers. The Colts were were a 3.5 point dog, they’re now a 1-point favorite. So, again, all you really need to do is pay attention, make sure that you’re following the local beat guys. Make sure you’re following everything that’s kind of going on with the teams. And you’re going to be able to get some good information before most of the market does and you’ll be able to beat the numbers. And usually when that happens, you’re probably getting a good number. And CLV is pretty valuable, which is clothing line value and usually you win.

That’s I mean, again, most of the the pros care more about where the number closes than actually if they win or lose because if you beat the number you’re going to win more often than not.

For the purpose of this list, we’re discounting players who are still on their rookie contracts and haven’t spent enough time in the NFL for a true evaluation. Some of the Patriots’ most recent Senior Bowl alumni include Mac Jones (2021), Rhamondre Stevenson (2021), Kyle Dugger (2020), Jake Bailey (2019), Ja’Whaun Bentley (2018), and Isaiah Wynn (2018).

The Patriots opened as 2-point favorites at home before betting action on New York as a popular Giants vs Patriots prediction in this matchup flipped the spread to make the Giants a 1.5-point road favorite.

    – Giants -1.5 total Patriots are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 preseason games (expected to be -3.5 to -4 Giants by this afternoon with the news New England will NOT play their starters)

    – The total in Thursday night’s game has settled in at 34 points after opening at 33 points.

    – The UNDER is 7-2 in the last nine preseason games between the Giants and Patriots.
