We’ve reached the point in the regular season that the Boston Bruins are starting to cash in on a historic run.

They’ve already clinched the Atlantic Division, and home ice throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs isn’t far away. But despite the Bruins’ home dominance, in a season like this, the B’s perform no matter where they play. That’s why they’ve also reached a new high for the franchise away from TD Garden.

  • Sunday’s road win over the Carolina Hurricanes marked the Bruins’ 27th road win, setting a

That the Bruins have been able to show up against playoff-level competition in their buildings, and still come away with wins, is a promising accomplishment for them ahead of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Home ice remains hugely important as well, and the B’s will have that advantage throughout the postseason. The home team won every game in the Bruins’ opening-round loss to the Hurricanes in 2022, and this time around, a Game 7 would be in Boston. So the B’s will be able to flip that advantage around on everyone in 2023.

But that also means the Bruins could really take control of a series if they can pull off a win on the road here and there. It’s a great sign for them heading into the playoffs that they edged out the Hurricanes on the road without Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, or Hampus Lindholm in the lineup.

  • It’s less promising that Boston coughed up a 3-1 lead with two quick Carolina goals early in the third period. There’s no shootout in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (condolences to Michael Felger), and overtimes remain 5-on-5, so the Bruins will have to score the old-fashioned way in those spots.

But this new road wins record is more about the collective achievement, rather than just the win in Raleigh. But Sunday was the capper. Along the way, they’ve also scored road wins in Tampa, Toronto, Manhattan, and New Jersey, in addition to Carolina. Add in the Western Conference, and the B’s can now say that they’ve beaten every other team in the top-3 of each division on the road.

That’s no small feat. It’s simply the latest big accomplishment in a season filled with them for the Bruins.
