SUNRISE, FL - APRIL 21: Teammates congratulate Goaltender Linus Ullmark #35 of the Boston Bruins after the 4-2 win against the Florida Panthers in Game Three of the First Round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs at the FLA Live Arena on April 21, 2023 in Sunrise, Florida. The Bruins will give the net to Linus Ullmark for Sunday’s Game 4 at FLA Live Arena, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed with the team just an hour and change away from puck drop.

The decision to stick with the 6-foot-5 Ullmark comes after a Game 3 that saw Ullmark stop 29-of-31 in a 4-2 victory for the Bruins, and with Ullmark pitching a shutout for the first 54 minutes-plus of that contest.

  • The decision also comes after a Saturday media session where Montgomery hinted at the Bruins turning to Jeremy Swayman for Game 4 given the extra day of rest between Game 4 and Wednesday’s Game 5 back in Boston.

“I think that Linus has played well, and Bob [Essensa] had his goalie union, and they decided that that’s what was best for the Boston Bruins,” Montgomery said of the decision to go with Ullmark over Swayman. “I have a lot of confidence in Goalie Bob. His feel for his goaltenders is outstanding, and I never second guess.”

  • Originally a game-time decision entering Game 3, the Bruins gave Ullmark the morning skate off, and it’s believed that he was off the ice yesterday in what was a seemingly optional practice for the B’s.

Montgomery acknowledged that giving him Friday morning off absolutely helped him be ready for game action, but offered a ‘I’ll let you know after tonight’s game’ when asked if the extra maintenance between Games 3 and 4 helped make him available and good to go for today’s contest.

This will be Ullmark’s first four-starts-in-seven-days stretch since Nov. 1 through Nov. 7, 2022. He went 3-1-0 in that segment, and stopped 26-of-27 in the fourth start.

  • In front of Ullmark, the Bruins are expected to go with the same lineup. That means that David Krejci will remain out of the Boston lineup, and that forwards Nick Foligno, Jakub Lauko, and defenseman Matt Grzelcyk will stay in the lineup. A.J. Greer, Oskar Steen, Connor Clifton, and Jakub Zboril make up the Bruins’ healthy scratches.

Panthers head coach Paul Maurice, meanwhile, would not disclose whether it would be Alex Lyon or Sergei Bobrovsky in the Florida crease. Maurice lifted Lyon in the third period of Game 3 after he allowed three goals on 26 shots, while Bobrovsky stopped eight of nine shots faced in relief.
