Bill Speros, otherwise known as “Obnoxious Boston Fan” on Twitter, has been very active as far as covering what's been going on with sports betting in Massachusetts. He recently tweeted that today’s a big day for Massachusetts gamblers.
Lifshatz believes sports betting could happen as soon as 3 WEEKS!
Rich Shertenlieb: So what are you hearing? Is there something special going on with the legislators that were there deciding on when the date will be?
Dan Lifshatz: So from what I've heard - it's the start of the NFL season. Right? So it's kind of like that. So it's not really a big deal, but it is kind of a big deal. And the whole thing is that Massachusetts wants to take advantage of the football money that comes in. Like like during the summer. They're not going to get anything right? I mean, I'm sure there's going to be some people betting on the Red Sox, but, you know, who cares? So the majority is going to be they want to get money in on the NFL and college football before it ends and then March Madness. So there's going to be a mad rush for that. And so I think they're trying to, from what I've heard, they're going to allow in-person betting way sooner than we thought, like within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Rich Shertenlieb: Wow. That means at the casino.
Dan Lifshatz: And again that's what's been kind of, you know, floated out there. There's no sources or anything. But like that's kind of what's been floated out there. The app stuff on your phone is going to take a minute. Like you have to share the app. you have to get aligned with everyone like there's in different states, there's different rules like, you know, New Hampshire can have these props and Connecticut have these props. It's really stupid, but like that's kind of going to be the rule and so that's going to take a little bit longer. But in person it is going to be pretty soon.
Rich Shertenlieb: 2 to 3 weeks you're saying.
Dan Lifshatz: That's the rumor that's been out there.
But the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Gambling Commission disagrees!
Even though Dan is taking punches online, he's still holding his head up high.
