The Ringer put out it’s top 100 NBA players list and other outlets left Derrick White off the list which offends me on so many different levels because Derrick White is a top 100 player in the NBA. So is Al Horford for that matter. The Celtics have six NBA starters this season and in my opinion all six are top 100 players going into the 2023-24 NBA season. I won’t bore you with 100 NBA names of which 48 of them YOU don’t care about but I’ll give you my top 50 list of which 15 of them you don’t care about and my list of 1 to 30 you’ll hate. Love the former Celtics first round pick who was dealt away for a future considerations. Bane had the highest three point field goal percentage in a rookie season since Stephen Curry (minimum 150 attempts) and in NBA2k is ranked an 84. He’s also on my yahoo NBA team.

  • 49. Karl-Anthony Towns

    KAT

SHANGHAI, CHINA – OCTOBER 08: Karl-Anthony Towns #32 of the Minnesota Timberwolves in action during the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors as part of 2017 NBA Global Games China at Mercedes-Benz Arena on October 8, 2017 in Shanghai, China. (Photo by Zhong Zhi/Getty Images)

I have KAT really low on this list because I’m really down on the former first overall pick. I admit, this is too low for a player with his talent but the Wolves are really Anthony Edwards team and KAT continues to disappoint me. KAT should be a top 10 NBA player but hasn’t figured it out.

  • 48. Cade Cunningham

Oklahoma State Cowboys guard Cade Cunningham passes around Oklahoma Sooners guard Elijah Harkless during the second half on February 27th, 2021 at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman Oklahoma. Get premium, high resolution news photos at Getty Images

(Shrug) We don’t have a licensed NBA photo of Cade Cunningham so I’ll use this one. I love the idea of a 6’7″ true point guard rather than the LeBron James, Luka style of point forward. If healthy and able to work in a good NBA system, I think Cade Cunningham could be a top 30 NBA player in the next 2 years.

  • 47. Tyrese Maxey

I’m hoping James Harden gets dealt to the Clippers so that we can see Maxey as the true number two in Philly. Who’s to say he can’t become the number one option in Philly. Bonus points for Maxey as he hates Doc Rivers.

  • 46. Evan Mobley

I like Evan Mobley a lot. He’d be a great Celtics and in Cleveland he’s the third star with the protentional of being the number one star of the Cavs. The 22 year old big ranks as an 85 in NBA2k.

  • 45. Julius Randle

    Julius Randle

Nov 1, 2019; Boston, MA, USA; Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker (8) is guarded by New York Knicks center Julius Randle (30) during the second half at TD Garden. Mandatory Credit: Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Julius Randle is an old school 18 point, 10 rebound, tough, defensive menace NBA big. I’m a fan from a far, sadly, he wouldn’t fit in green but fits on my list at number 45.

  • 44. Dejounte Murray

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 23: Dejounte Murray #5 of the Atlanta Hawks reacts against the Boston Celtics in the final seconds of the fourth quarter of Game Four of the Eastern Conference First Round Playoffs at State Farm Arena on April 23, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

I liked Murray when he was with the Spurs but maybe he was a product of playing with Derrick White and the Murray / Young back court in Atlanta led the Hawks to just a 41-41 record.

  • 43. Victor Wembanyama

    Victor Wembanyama

Before the season begins, I’m putting Victor Wembanyama in my top 50 BUT I think he’s not going to be as great as everyone thinks he’s going to be. We think he has the right coach and can grow in to the next great Spur but I just have a vibe he’s going to be another “big” number one overall draft pick who is an NBA bust.

  • 42. Bam Adebayo

Miami Heat v Boston Celtics - Game Five

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – MAY 25: Bam Adebayo #13 of the Miami Heat controls the ball over Marcus Smart #36 of the Boston Celtics during the third quarter in game five of the Eastern Conference Finals at TD Garden on May 25, 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts. I put Bam Adebayo at 42 just because I hate the Heat, I hate Head culture and I’m overall annoyed with the player. He might be a top 30 NBA but I put him at 42 just out of my bias for being a Celtics fan.

  • 41. James Harden

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 14: Jayson Tatum #0 of the Boston Celtics shoots the ball against James Harden #1 of the Philadelphia 76ers during the second quarter in game seven of the 2023 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals at TD Garden on May 14, 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts. I like James Harden, I’d welcome him to the Celtics but there’s a lot to dislike about him and his selfish play on the court with the basketball and his lack of interest to stay with one team. My guess is he’ll start the season with the 76ers and end up with a mystery team before the NBA trade deadline.

  • 40. Zach LaVine

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - MAY 07: Luke Kornet #40 of the Boston Celtics moves against Zach LaVine #8 of the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on May 07, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. Felger loves Zach LaVine, if he had full health for his NBA career, he’d be in the conversation for being a top 10-20 scorer in this NBA generation. NBA2K would call him a Floor-Spacing Slasher and rates him as 86 overall.

    39. DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan is a three level playmaker and is one of the few NBA guards who is not only ok with shooting an 18 foot jumper but has lead the league in two point field goals.

  • 38. LaMelo Ball

LeMelo Ball can be a top 5 NBA player if he can just get out of Charlotte and get a coach and some elite talent around him. My love for LeMelo is similar to my love for the concept of the big true point guard. See Cade Cunningham in Detroit.

  • 37. Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal, Shooting Guard, Phoenix Suns. That just sounds strange. He goes from the number one option in Washington to the number three option in Phoenix.

Garland is the second option in Cleveland and a strong number two next to Donovan Mitchell. Darius Garland is considered an elite level passer and is excellent scoring the basketball.

  • 35. Paolo Banchero

Paolo Banchero was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2023 as a member of the Orlando Magic as the surprise number one overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Banchero is the first ever Italian NBA player to win the NBA Rookie of the Yea award.

Lauri Markkanen fell short of making the All-NBA team in his first season as a member of the Utah Jazz, it wouldn’t shock me if he made it this year. The 26 year old big was an NBA All-Star and won the NBA Most Improved Player Award.

Brandon Ingram SHOULD be to New Orleans what Jayson Tatum is to the Celtics but for whatever the reasons, he hasn’t turned into a top 5 or top 10 player in the NBA. I still like Ingram but he should be more than he’s been in New Orleans. The talent is there and he should be higher than 33 on my list.

  • 32. Pascal Siakam

Zion Williamson is another player who should be top 10 in the NBA on everyone’s list and has underachieved since being drafted as the number one overall pick in 2019. With his reported weight loss, my hope is that Zion ends this season as a top 15 player.

  • 30. Jaren Jackson Jr.

In 2023, Jaren Jackson Jr. was named to his first NBA All-Star team, and won Defensive Player of the Year. the young “big” has led the league in blocks per game in two consecutive seasons.

  • 29. Domantas Sabonis

Domantas Sabonis made his first All-NBA team and third All-Star selection in 2023, he led the Kings with De’Aaron Fox to the number three seed in the west breaking their NBA record 17-year playoff drought.

  • 28. Kristaps Porziņģis

New York Knicks v Boston Celtics

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – OCTOBER 17: Kristaps Porzingis #8 of the Boston Celtics looks on during the first quarter of the Celtic’s preseason game against the New York Knicks at TD Garden on October 17, 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

If healthy, Kristaps Porziņģis should end the 2023-24 season as a top 10 NBA player. Just watching this preseason defenses are focusing so much on Tatum and Brown, Porziņģis is getting easy offense. I think we’ll be thrilled with how good he is on the defensive side of the court. I have high hopes that I’ll be mocked for having Kristaps Porziņģis 28 in my top 50 ranking.

  • 27. Jalen Brunson

Miami Heat v New York Knicks - Game Five

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MAY 10: Jalen Brunson #11 of the New York Knicks waits for the clock to run out ending game five of the Eastern Conference semifinals at Madison Square Garden on May 10, 2023 in New York City. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. I loved Jalen Brunson coming out of college and was surprised he was a second round pick having won a player of the year award and having won two NCAA championships with the Villanova Wild Cats. I might have him low at number 27 based on his impact on the Knicks since signing with them as a free agent before last season.

  • 26. Mikal Bridges

There is a chance that Mikal Bridges leads the Nets in every statistical category the league has to offer. Mikal Bridges should be a top 15 player by the end of this season. He’s that talented.

  • 25. Trae Young

Wasn’t Trae Young supposed to be the next Steph Curry? What happened to that guy? He’s an Atlanta Hawk, that’s what happened.

Paul George at 24 might be too high based on his lack of health while he’s been a member of the Clippers. PG13 might go down as one of the greatest disappointments in NBA history if he doesn’t win a championship.

  • 23. Kyrie Irving

Yup, I hate Kyrie Irving for what he did to the Celtics but when he’s on the court, focused and wants to win he’s one of the best point guards in the NBA.

  • 22. Jrue Holiday

Jrue Holiday won an NBA championship as a member of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks. Holiday is a two-time NBA All-Star and five-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. He also won a gold medal with the 2020 U.S. Olympic team. He’s on record in saying he’d be open to coming off the bench if it’s best for the Boston Celtics. I already love this guy.

At one point I thought Kawhi Leonard was a better basketball player than LeBron James. Woof. Swing and a miss.

I wanted the Celtics to draft Jamal Murray the same year they drafted Jaylen Brown. Brown went third and Murray went seventh. I bet if there was a re-draft, Jaylen Brown goes number one, Jamal Murray goes number two. I still think Jamal Murray would be a great Celtic because he can really do anything offensively as a point guard. Oh and he’s an NBA Champion.

  • 19. Tyrese Haliburton

Tyrese Haliburton is a wrestling fan and one of my favorite non-Celtics in the NBA. He’ll be a hall of fame point guard by the end of his career. There is a case to be made he’s the best point guard in the NBA.

  • 18. Ja Morant

I hope Ja Morant figures out his off court issues, Ja Morant on the court is a top 5 to 10 player in the NBA. Ja Morant is another on court favorite of mine in the NBA.

Lillard. Bucks. Yeah. Hall of Famer. Yup. He’s still going to lose to the Celtics in the East Finals.

De’Aaron Fox had a breakout season in 2023, as he made his first NBA All-Star Game and All-NBA Team, he was also named the first winner of the Clutch Player of the Year Award and helped the Kings to their first postseason berth since 2006.

If you turned injuries off in the real NBA like you can in NBA 2K, Anthony Davis would be a near perfect player and be the best player in the NBA. Injuries and effort issues have made Davis an under achiever in my opinion. And I say that as some one who years ago would have dealt everything for him to become a member of the Boston Celtics. What an air ball by me.

Donovan Mitchell is the other half of arguably the best back court in the NBA. He was a member of All-NBA First team and Google tells me that he won the Slam Dunk contest in 2018.

Jimmy Butler is great. He’s a winner. He’s beaten the Celtics twice, almost three times in the East Finals with the Heat. Much respect.

My hope is that Jaylen Brown will benefit from Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņģis and Jayson Tatum getting more attention on the offensive side of the basketball where his scoring will go up. I’d love to see Jaylen get more credit for how good he is on the defensive side of the basketball court. I do think he’ll make another All NBA Team in 2023-24.

If teams focus on Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal more than Devin Booker this season, Booker might average 40 points a night. Love Booker.

If teams focus on Devin Booker and Bradley Beal more than Kevin Durant this season, and Durant can stay on the court, Durant might average 40 points a night. Durant would have been a great Celtic if the Celtics had gotten the number one pick in 2007.

  • 9. LeBron James

With LeBron, the mind is able but the body is not willing, right now he is the smartest player in the NBA. LeBron will always make the right basketball play. You’ll hate him for it. I should rank LeBron James higher and I do think the Lakers have one more run to the finals in them. I can see a Lakers vs Celtics NBA Finals.

I’m very MEH on the reigning and defending NBA MVP Joel Embiid. I should have him top 5 but I just don’t believe in Joel Embiid.

Anthony Edwards could be Michael Jordan. I think he’s that good and that driven. If anyone is going to bring a championship to Minnesota, it’s Anthony Edwards. I bet he’ll win a title with a bigger name franchise and an NBA Finals MVP in the future.

SGA was dealt with Danilo Gallinari, five first-round draft picks, and the rights to swap two other first-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Paul George. That trade didn’t age well. SGA has carried the Thunder for the last three seasons and was rewarded this season by being named to the All NBA First team.

  • 5. Luka Dončić

A modern day Magic Johnson. By the time he’s done, he may have a better resume than former Mavericks teammate Nowitzki.

Luka Dončić is my favorite non-Celtic in the NBA. I have him as a top 5 player because he’s a walking triple double, has made the All NBA First team four times. Luka just needs the right coach, defensive effort and players around him and he’ll be swimming in championships.

At 35, there is nothing left for Stephen Curry to do in the NBA other than make money but he’s got that “it” compete factor and it’s why the Celtics lost to the Warriors in the Finals in 2022 and why I never count the Warriors out of any game or series. Curry goes down in NBA history as the greatest pure shooter of all time.

Giannis. Great player. Bucks are going to lose to the Celtics in the playoffs.

Jayson Tatum’s most important goal this season is winning the NBA Finals MVP. Tatum is going to lead the Celtics to 60 regular season wins and Celtics banner 18. Put it on the board. See you opening night!

Jokić won his first of what I assume will be multiple NBA Championships, he should have won his third straight NBA regular season MVP. He’s clearly the best player in the NBA. I have wrongfully questioned his defense but if you look at the NBA Finals against the Heat, he was calling out the Heat offense as they were coming down the court.
