  • The Boston Red Sox aren’t throwing nine-figure contracts around, but Chaim Bloom & Co. remained busy Friday with a pair of completed trades, and with the biggest of the two coming with a focus on the (you guessed it) Boston bullpen.

That move saw the Sox acquire reliever Wyatt Mills from the Kansas City Royals, and with minor-league pitcher Jacob Wallace sent Kansas City’s way in what was a one-for-one exchange.

  • A righty-throwing reliever with a submarine delivery, Mills comes to Boston after a 2022 campaign that included 28 appearances between Kansas City and the Seattle Mariners.

With Kansas City after the trade that brought Carlos Santana to Seattle, the 27-year-old Mills posted an 0-1 record with four holds and a 4.79 ERA over 20.2 innings of work with the Royals.

  • Mills joins a Boston relief group that’s certainly been boosted this offseason, with Chris Martin and Joely Rodriguez, along with closer Kenley Jansen, already added to the mix for 2023.

The 24-year-old Wallace, meanwhile, will depart the Red Sox organization after two seasons in the farm system. A third-round pick of the Rockies in 2019, the Red Sox acquired the Methuen, Mass. native from Colorado in the Kevin Pillar trade in Sept. 2020.

A 6-foot-1 righty, Wallace posted an 8-2 record with one save and a 3.81 ERA, along with 76 strikeouts, in 56.2 innings of work over 47 appearances with Double-A Portland last season.

Wallace was the 45th-ranked prospect in the organization, according to Sox Prospects.

  • Boston’s other move came with the announcement of a trade that sent utility player Hoy Park to the Braves in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Park’s move out of Boston comes days after the 26-year-old was designated for assignment by the team, and just weeks after the team acquired Park in a trade with Pittsburgh.

  • Park, who has MLB experience with Pirates and Yankees, posted a .216 average, along with two homers and six RBIs, in 23 games with Pittsburgh last season. Outside of his 23-game run with the Pirates, Park spent his 2022 season with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he hit .225 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 89 games for the Indians.

Park’s best year in the Majors came in 2021, where he established career-highs in hits (25), doubles (five), triples (two), home runs (three), and RBIs (14) while batting .197 in a 44-game run for Pittsburgh.
