I’ve done a list of players taken a pick before the Boston Bruins in recent drafts so now it’s time to name some players that were taken a pick after the Bruins in recent drafts.

  • 2007 1st round – Logan Couture picked after Zach Hamill

  • Logan Couture has played in 927 games in his NHL career and has 700 points to show for it. Zach Hamill played in 20 NHL games and had four assists. Big time swing and a miss from the Bruins front office.

  • 2009 1st round – Kyle Palmieri picked after Jordan Caron

  • Kyle Palmieri has 425 points in the NHL and played a role in eliminating the Bruins from the playoffs in 2021 with the New York Islanders.  Jordan Caron hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2015-16 season. Big miss for the Bruins.

  • 2010 1st round – Jonas Brodin picked after Dougie Hamilton

Minnesota Wild v Winnipeg Jets - Game Two

  • The selection of Dougie Hamilton was the right one at the time for the Bruins. However, looking back at what they got in return when they traded Hamilton, maybe taking Brodin would’ve been a better fit in Boston?

  • 2012 3rd round – Colton Parayko picked after Matt Grzelcyk

  • Did the Bruins take Matt Grzelcyk over Colton Parayko because of his local ties to the city and the TD Garden? If so, that’s not an ideal decision at all.

  • 2014 4th round – Michael Bunting picked after Danton Heinen

Toronto Maple Leafs v Washington Capitals

  • These two have had somewhat opposite careers so far. Heinen came out early on and found the stat sheet and then faded, while Bunting took some time to make the NHL and put up points. I think I’d take Bunting over Heinen if I could re-do it.

  • 2015 1st round – Mat Barzal picked after Jakub Zboril, Jake DeBrusk, and Zach Senyshyn

Carolina Hurricanes v New York Islanders - Game Six

ELMONT, NEW YORK – APRIL 28: Frederik Andersen #31 of the Carolina Hurricanes makes the save on Mathew Barzal #13 of the New York Islanders in Game Six of the First Round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs at UBS Arena on April 28, 2023 in Elmont, New York. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

  • The Bruins had three consecutive first round picks and didn’t use any of them on Mat Barzal. Would’ve been nice to maybe use one of them on him.

  • 2015 2nd round – Rasmus Andersson picked after Jeremy Lauzon

Calgary Flames v Los Angeles Kings

  • Rasmus Andersson is seeing top pairing minutes in Calgary and has put up 99 points from the blue line the last two seasons. The Bruins lost Jeremy Lauzon to Seattle in the expansion draft and then he was ultimately traded to Nashville.

  • 2015 3rd round – Adin Hill picked after Daniel Vladar

  • Adin Hill is two wins away from a Stanley Cup. Daniel Vladar was traded for a 3rd round pick. I don’t want to make a big deal out of 3rd round goalies, but it’d be funny to laugh at the Bruins over this one.

  • 2016 6th round – Andrew Mangiapane picked after Cameron Hughes

    Calgary Flames v Winnipeg Jets

WINNIPEG, CANADA – APRIL 5: Mark Scheifele #55 of the Winnipeg Jets eyes up Mikael Backlund #11, Jacob Markstrom #25, Andrew Mangiapane #88 and Noah Hanifin #55 of the Calgary Flames after a whistle in the second period during a game on April 5, 2023 at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. • I don’t really want to whine over 6th round picks that were used Cameron Hughes and Andrew Mangiapane, but it would’ve been nice to find a solid bottom-6 guy in the 6th round like Calgary did.

  • 2017 1st round – Josh Norris picked after Urho Vaakanainen

Detroit Red Wings v Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – APRIL 03: Josh Norris #9 of the Ottawa Senators skates against the Detroit Red Wings at Canadian Tire Centre on April 03, 2022 in Ottawa, Ontario. (Photo by Chris Tanouye/Getty Images)

  • Josh Norris had some injury troubles this past season that slowed his progress, but he’s got a 35 goal season to his credit in his career. Urho Vaakanainen was part of the trade package that brought in Hampus Lindholm.
