The NFL schedule won’t be out for over a month, but the Patriots are already making travel plans. Not for the regular season, but the preseason.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Mike Reiss shared in his weekly notes that Bill Belichick and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel “have been talking about the possibility of joint practices in Nashville.” The Patriots previously met Vrabel – a former Patriot – and the Titans for joint practices prior to the 2019 season.

  • For the Patriots, joint practices are a big part of their training camp process. The team generally values those reps highly, given they’re against unfamiliar competition while being in a controlled setting where the coaches can create certain situations.

Joint practices would likely mean a preseason game between the two teams as well. The Patriots are set to have one home and two road preseason games this year, based on the NFL’s new rotating schedule format. Last season, the preseason schedule was announced along with the regular season schedule in mid-May.

Last year, the Patriots held two weeks of joint practices, leading up to their second two weeks of preseason games. Those were at home against the Carolina Panthers, then on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders.
