In the wake of the Patriots’ surprise statement late last week, there’s been plenty of talk about who the Patriots will hire as their next offensive coordinator. While that was happening though, one of their current offensive coaches set up to interview for another team’s OC job.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, current Patriots tight ends coach Nick Caley will interview for the Jets open offensive coordinator job at some point this week. That job was previously held by Mike LaFleur, who was let go last week.

  • It had previously been reported that Caley, 39, was expected to receive interest from around the league. When the Patriots were looking to replace Josh McDaniels last year, he was viewed as one of the top internal candidates to take over the job that was eventually given to Matt Patricia. It’s not known whether or not he’s a candidate for the Patriots’ OC job this year.

Caley is the Patriots’ longest-tenured offensive assistant coach, having been with the team since 2015. He began his time in New England as a general offensive assistant, before getting promoted to his current job of tight ends coach in 2017.

In addition to Caley, the Jets are also expected to interview Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patull and Dolphins passing game coordinator Darrell Bevell for their OC opening. As for Caley, he’s also expected to receive interest from the Houston Texans.
