  • The Patriots made a series of roster moves on Tuesday, mainly focused on the offensive side of the ball. That included placing running back/wide receiver Ty Montgomery on short-term IR, a move first reported by

The Patriots are placing RB Ty Montgomery on IR. WR Lil’Jordan will be signed to the 53-man roster.

Montgomery scored the team’s lone TD on Sunday as part of their three man RB rotation.

With this placement, Montgomery will now have to miss at least four games. The soonest he could return would be the Patriots’ Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Montgomery played 21 offensive snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, one fewer than Damien Harris and seven more than Rhamondre Stevenson. He also played seven snaps on special teams, including serving as the team’s kick returner. While he didn’t appear to suffer any obvious injury during the game, it’s possible the placement is tied to an ankle injury he suffered during the preseason finale which caused him to miss a week of practice and then be limited in the days leading up to the Miami game.

  • To fill Montgomery’s place on the active roster, the Patriots signed wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey off the practice squad. Humphrey was a standout during the summer and one of the team’s leading receivers in the preseason. He was elevated off the practice squad for Sunday’s game, playing three offensive snaps and one special teams snap.

With Humphrey’s open practice squad spot, the Patriots officially signed offensive tackle Marcus Cannon. Cannon’s signing had previously been reported last week, but is now official. Cannon was drafted by the Patriots in 2011 and played for the team through 2020 before being traded to the Houston Texans.

On top of those signings, the Patriots also hosted five players for workouts and visits. Offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons, defensive linemen Mika Tafua, Sam Kamara and Micah Dew-Treadway, and linebacker Ron’Dell Carter were all in Foxborough on Tuesday.
