During the 2021 shortened season the National Hockey League and Adidas came out with their first “Reverse Retro” jersey program that featured throwback jerseys with reverse looks for all of the teams in the league. Due to the success of the first set, a second set of “Reverse Retro” jerseys were released for the 2022-23 season. Adidas and the NHL will no longer be partnering on jerseys following the 2023-24 season as Fanatics will enter the fold, which means the Adidas “Reverse Retro” program is officially done.
Though the “Reverse Retro” program is no more, it doesn’t exactly mean we’ll never see those jerseys again. When a new jersey supplier takes over you occasionally see teams make a jersey change or a complete rebrand with the change of suppliers, so there’s a possibility that certain teams will bring back old looks when Fanatics takes over this upcoming summer. Here is a list of “Reverse Retro” jerseys that I’d love to see come back into the fold for teams, whether it be full-time, one night a year, or on an alternate basis, in the near future!
Anaheim Ducks – 2021
You could do anything that involves the Mighty Ducks look and I will love it. The Anaheim Ducks currently have some of the worst jerseys in hockey and need to go back to the Mighty Ducks looks immediately. The throwback look of the “Wild Wing” jersey was sweet and I’d love to see it back on NHL ice soon.
Arizona Coyotes – 2021
The Kachina head logo with purple being the primary color on the jersey was a terrific look for the Coyotes. They should bring these back and get rid of the bland alternates they currently wear that just say “Arizona” across the chest of the jersey. Going full Kachina is the way that the Coyotes need to go.
