The NFL top 100 players list is starting to roll out for the 2022 season, and Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has landed on the rankings.
Jones in 2021 became the first rookie quarterback to start every game in the regular season and make the playoffs since Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson both did it in 2012. He parlayed the Pats’ rebound season into a Pro Bowl appearance and, now, the No. 85 spot on the NFL top 100 players list.
This is voted on by the players, so clearly, it’s not just the Patriots who like what Jones showed as a rookie. He heads into an all-important second season with some noticeable growing pains so far in training camp, but not much of which can be attributed to his own performance. Jones has looked confident and efficient when given reasonable time to throw, and goes into the season with a much deeper receiving corps than he had as a rookie. Tight end Jonnu Smith looked poised to improve, too, while Hunter Henry has looked like his usual dependable self when targeted.

The NFL Network announced players 100-51 on Sunday. The top 50 will be announced in a series of specials over the next two weeks. That includes Nos. 50-31 in a two-hour special at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 21, 30-21 in a one-hour special later that night at 11 p.m. ET, then the top-20 in a three-hour finale at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 28.
Since Jones has already appeared on the countdown at No. 85, and linebacker Matthew Judon checked in at No. 52, it’s unlikely we’ll see any more Patriots on the 2022 rankings. In New England, the hope is they get a top-100 level of performance out of players like Christian Barmore, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Hunter Henry, or rookies Cole Strange and Tyquan Thornton. That, or someone else comes out of the woodwork.
Anyway, here’s the full NFL top-100 players so far…

It feels like forever ago when Carr was an MVP candidate as he led the Raiders to a 12-3 record with strong passing numbers. He’s been an efficient passer and would likely manage the Patriots offense well. But has he proven enough to be confident he can win? The Patriots would need to continue to improve the team around Carr to become a legitimate contender.
64. LB Devin White, Buccaneers
63. WR Jaylen Waddle, Dolphins
62. DE Chandler Jones, Raiders
61. QB Russell Wilson, Broncos
