Toucher & Rich

Weekdays 6am-10am

The Boston Celtics came up short in last year’s NBA Finals, losing to the Golden State Warriors in six games. It was the Celtics’ first Finals appearance since 2010. Now, fans and media personalities alike have unrealistic expectations for this year’s squad.

On Wednesday’s Toucher & Rich program, Celtics Play-by-Play Commentator Mike Gorman joins the show to discuss potential playoff scenarios for the Celts.

  • Rich: Did you stay up late last night to watch the Celtics?

Mike Gorman: I watched the whole damn thing.

Rich: So, Rob Williams makes all the difference, doesn’t he?

Mike Gorman: Yes, he does. I don’t know. I think the media has been unfair to this team.

We all have the impression that the Celtics are owed a championship this year. If they don’t win a championship this year, the season will somehow be a disappointment and a bad year. And that’s ludicrous to have that be the situation.

  • Mike Gorman: The Celtics winning as much as they did last year has nothing to do with how far they might go this year. Nothing.

It will depend upon who is healthy, who’s who is playing well, and who they draw in the playoffs. It has nothing to do with the fact that they have a right to be in the championship because they got as far as they did last year. That is all unfair pressure to put on any coach, team, or individual.

In the upcoming playoffs, the Celtics will find themselves in situations where the other side will be as good as they are. Or maybe it’s better.

  • Mike Gorman: That will be an interesting test for this bunch. And again, I think it’s unfair for people to have a win-or-bust attitude with the Celtics. If they lose the first round, that would be a disaster. If they lose to Philly or Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference finals, I don’t think that’s a disaster.
