As the Boston Red Sox inch closer to the MLB trade deadline, the team will have a decision to make on whether to be "buyers" or "sellers" at the deadline. On Thursday's Felger and Mazz, Mazz took a look back at Chaim Bloom's recent deadline moves and wonders if Bloom has the balls to make good moves at the deadline.
Mazz's Thoughts on Chaim Bloom at Trade Deadlines
Mazz: I raised this yesterday with Jimmy and he was kind enough to look it up, because again, I don't totally disagree with you with the idea of buying or selling at the deadline. If you're in it, you should buy it. It sends a bad message to your team that you sell at the deadline if you're in it. How do we feel about Chaim Bloom at the deadline?
Felger: Poorly.
Mazz: So I was thinking of this, this would be his fourth deadline, well actually his third because the first one was back in 2020 which was an abbreviated season, so that when you sort of throw out the window. Who has he acquired? Who has Chaim Bloom acquired in a trade at mid-season that you say, "well there's a guy who's part of their future. There's a guy that can really start to build around or that will be part of the team the next time they are really good?". Who? Because when I go back and look at it, you know who is acquired at the trade deadline?

Mazz: If you're a seller, you're looking for a future piece. Last year they were sellers and they got Enmanuel Valdez and Wilyer Abreu. I'm not sure Enmanuel Valdez is anything special. Abreu hasn't made it to the big leagues yet. He was hot earlier in the year for Triple-A Worcester but I don't feel like either one of those guys has flashed. I'll allow that it's too early to make a judgment on those guys, but all he's made is half assed deals. So if he's just going to make more half assed deals at this deadline, why make them at all?
Felger: You know how I feel about this.
Mazz: No, no, I know. But my point is, I don't think this guy's got the balls to make a big deal.
