  • Patriots quarterback Mac Jones apparently suffered an injury during the team’s 20-7 season-opening loss to the Miami Dolphins. Jones finished the game without any apparent issue, but  was spotted entering the X-ray room with team doctors. Jones was in that room for about five minutes, according to NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry. Shortly after that report, the Patriots announced Jones would not hold his usual postgame media availability due to a back injury.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero has reported that Jones’ injuries came back negative, and that he’ll undergo further evaluation back in Foxborough. However, he didn’t give any specifics as to the nature of Jones’ injury.

  • Head coach Bill Belichick was asked for an update on Jones during his availability, which came shortly before Jones’ was canceled. Belichick told reporters that he hadn’t yet been in the training room.

It wasn’t clear where Jones may have suffered the injury. The biggest hit he took came early in the fourth quarter, when Dolphins’ safety Javon Holland was called for roughing the passer for hitting Jones high. After that point, he completed four of nine passes for 64 yards, including the deep pass to Kendrick Bourne.

Jones’ injury situation isn’t the only one the Patriots will be monitoring coming out of the game. Starting safety Adrian Phillips left the game late in the first half with a rib injury and didn’t return.
