In the wake of Tom Brady’s retirement video Wednesday, Patriots owner Robert Kraft subsequently released a recording of his own. Kraft’s three-and-a-half-minute video shows meaningful reflection on TB12’s career and his time spent in Foxboro.

On Thursday’s Zolak & Bertrand radio program—Bertrand, Hardy and Joe Murray react to Kraft’s video and discuss whether or not a one-day retirement contract with the Patriots is in Brady’s future.

“Does Kraft feel like he needs to butter up Brady to get him back in the fold here? Just so that he has that connection with the team, to make sure that he’s clearly identified as a Patriot until the end of time.

“It’s what everybody wants, isn’t it? It’s what Kraft wants. Good for him for doing it. It feels like he’s making the push for Brady to give a damn about New England again.”

“These guys have been in each other’s lives for 23, 24 years. Those two have remained a near constant in each other’s lives.

“I thought it was a sweet moment when Robert mentioned Myra and how Tom was there [for him]. They’re a part of each other’s milestones in life, for better or worse.

“Those two are fine with each other if I had to guess. [The holdup] is more of an institutional thing. Institutionally, how does Tom Brady feel about the New England Patriots as a registered trademark? That’s the relationship that I think needs to be nurtured a little bit.”

  • Brady Responds

  • Bertrand

“Robert could have said all of this privately to him, but there’s a more emotional impact when you put this [message] into a nice video. Kraft wants Brady to feel good about the Patriots organization again.

“When Brady left here three years ago, he probably wasn’t feeling great about the Patriots. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have left. He wouldn’t have left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”

  • Joe Murray

“The Patriots could have done this three years ago. I think Brady feels like they could have done this a long time ago. They could have locked him up [to a contract].

“But, when Kraft says, ‘do everything in my power,’ what does that mean? What’s he going to do? We’re already talking about a statue, aren’t we? Are we going to have a Tom Brady Day? Everybody on the field wears number 12? What are we going do?”

  • Bertrand

“Do you care that Robert Kraft is, at this point, publicly begging? That’s what it is. He’s doing everything in his power to get Brady to sign that one-day contract, according to him.

“Do you care if Brady does it or not? Do you think Brady will do it? I think he gives in and will do it. I think it will happen.”
