With news of Celtics head coach Ime Udoka facing a lengthy suspension due to a reported violation of team guidelines, the second year head coach joins the list of current head coaches in Boston who have found themselves mired in controversy and scandal:

  • 2007 - Bill Belichick's involvement in Spygate

    Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000, the Patriots organization was fined $250,000 and and the team also forfeited their 2008 1st round draft pick for their part in videotaping New York Jets sideline signals during their 38-14 Week 1 victory.

  • 2018 - Alex Cora suspended over Astros sign stealing scandal

    Following the 2018 season, Alex Cora was suspended for all of 2020 by Major League Baseball for being one of the masterminds in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. He and the Red Sox chose to part ways following the punishment, before being rehired right after the 2020 season.

  • 2019 - Jim Montgomery fired for "unprofessional conduct"

    The Bruins have hired former Dallas Stars head coach Jim Montgomery as their new head coach after firing Bruce Cassidy after a disappointing 2021. While the slate is clean for Montgomery, he has been involved in controversy during his time behind the bench in the NHL. In 2019, he was fired by the Stars for what was termed “unprofessional conduct” before entering a rehab facility in 2020 after what he termed a “wakeup call”.
