Felger: When you last heard from us last week, the big story to me was that thing about the Colts calling out their plays and the Patriots offensive players talking about it in the locker room in front of reporters. Like that's a big sign of finger pointing to me and lack of trust. And, you know, again, players pointing fingers at the coaches, not believing in them. Devin McCourty, the ultimate company guy, talking about players being glad that Joe Judge was gone. You know, basically that's pretty much half of that comment. So maybe maybe that explains why Bill was asked today in his conference call about players doing media during the bye week. And, well, it was this exchange.
Reporter Question: That McCourty was on CBS's pre-game coverage yesterday, obviously free for the bye week. Is that something that you need to clear for the team and how does it work with players sort of trying to angle media gigs and trying to balance it out with team responsibilities?
Bill Belichick: Yeah, well, I mean, as you know, all the things we do go through our media relations department, so how those things are processed and so forth, yeah, i'm just trying to coach a team.
Reporter Question: And so you're cool with our players trying to find like media gigs throughout the year. Like, "oh got some free time, I want to try and get a media gig, it's all good".
Bill Belichick: Yeah. Again, those things are handled through our media relations department.
Felger: Oh, that is rich. That is rich. Ask any player that's gone through there and happened to just say something a little off in the newspaper and show up the next day and have the newspaper clip taped to the locker with a circle around the quote that says "go see BB" and then the player has to go see BB, and walk into his office and Bill's got to grunt at him about what he says to the media. Like Bill, did he say that with a straight face? Or was one of those half jokes? Because if he said it with a smile on his face, I'll drop this rant. Because if he was being purposely sarcastic, because he's so far up those players asses about what they do with media, it's not even funny. You can't even freaking take a proper dump his hand is so far up your freakin backside moving your lips. That goes through the media relations department. Ha ha. That is rich. Tell me he was laughing when he said that or smiling and making a joke.
Mazz: So I just listened to the audio. I didn't see the video.
Jim Murray: Didn't sound it though.
Felger: Tell me he was cracking a smile. Because he can't be serious with that. That goes through them. So he's blaming Stacy for that? Like, "I'm just trying to coach the team". Did he say that with a straight face? You've got to be kidding me.
