Felger: The argument’s been going all morning but let’s started it anew…they are in what, Mazz?
Mazz: They’re in the playoffs. The Patriots are in the playoffs.
Felger: I got it. They’re in it for the division?
Mazz: They’re in the hunt for the division.
Felger: Murray, your reaction?
Jim Murray: So this is what annoyed me the most about this game yesterday is that I knew what it was going to be, with the Bills losing, it was going to bring out this “2020 path talk”, delusion and false hope I have little to no tolerance for. Can they make the playoffs? Yeah. I mean, if it started right now, guess what? You’re the seventh seed. You’re going to Miami to take on the Dolphins again. Great. They can be a playoff team with how the conference looks. They’re not winning the division. “The division’s a race now”, Yeah, it is, for the Dolphins, the Jets and the Bills, not you. You’re not good enough. You have the toughest schedule remaining of those teams in your division. They’re not winning the division. 0.0 chance. I know the math speaks to it. “There’s still time left, they still get to play the Bills twice. The Bills are vulnerable. They don’t look right”. Please stop. They’re not winning the division. They’re not in it for the division. You want to pretend that they are? Go nuts and I’ll pretend I can win Mega millions this week. It’s a false hope and I have no time for it.
Felger: Are you talking to Mazz or the people?
Jim Murray: Mazz too. I expect better than you, too. This email this morning. Reading it, reading it. I get to this. I was like, “Oh, Tony, what the hell are you doing?” I mean, the people I expected from. “They’re vulnerable. (Josh) Allen’s not right. Turnover machine”. Fine. Fine. Mazz? Mazz, what are you doing?
Felger: We expect more from you, Mazz.
Mazz: Okay, so, first of all, let me just tell you that during my many years at the Boston Herald, something to which Mike Felger can attest here, okay, there is a difference between being a reporter and being a columnist. A reporter merely states the facts. A columnist gives you his opinion. The reporter in me is telling you….
Jim Murray: This is how you’re going to couch it?
Mazz: Yup. You’re damn right it is. They’re in it. They’re in it. They’re in the division race. They have four losses. The division leader has three. You’re in the race. You’re trying to fix your offense. You’re in it. Whethere you want to believe that or not, again, now that becomes a matter of opinion. Now, if you were asking me, do I think that they’re going to win the division, my answer is probably not. No. But today, you’re in it. And if they can just fix the freakin offense and find a way to score points more consistently protect the football, they can win the division.
