Eagles cornerback Darius Slay respects Matt Patricia as a coach, but not as a man

Rich from Toucher & Rich is broadcasting live from Radio Row in Arizona and got the chance to talk to DARIUS SLAY at Opening Night.

• During the exchange, The Eagles cornerback opened up about Matt Patricia, his former Lions head coach. The Lions traded Slay to the Philadelphia in March 2020. Patricia was fired months later.

  “It was just weird how he came in like he was bigger and better than all of us,” Slay recalled of Matt Patricia with the Lions. “He was acting like we asked to be there. We do get selected. That was the crazy part about him.”

  Slay also said Patricia had a “big problem” with him training in the offseason with great players.

• “He basically just said, ‘You are not in that category yet,’ ” Slay said. “At that time, I only had one Pro Bowl but now I’m at five, so I want to know how he feels about that now.”

  “I don’t wish bad on him, but as a man, me and him just don’t get along. He’s a smart coach, he knows his Xs and Os, but the disrespect is not what I’m with.”

  Rich Shertenlieb: Can you confirm a story we’ve been told during the first meeting he had with the Lions, he basically said that he was the greatest and that you guys hadn’t won anything. Is that true?

  Darius Slay: That’s pretty much true.

  Rich Shertenlieb: So what happened?

  Darius Slay: It was just weird how he came in like he was bigger and better than all of us. He was acting like we asked to be there. We do get selected. That was the crazy part about him.

  Darius Slay: Yeah. Big problem.

  Rich Shertenlieb: So what did he say?
