When Malcolm Brogdon was first acquired by the Celtics last summer, one of the biggest questions was how he would adjust to a bench role after being a starter for the majority of his career in Milwaukee and Indiana. He ended up answering that question emphatically, and now had the hardware to show it.

Brogdon found out about the award with everybody else. Appearing on TNT as part of their Thursday night tip-off show, Brogdon was handed the Sixth-Man of the year Trophy, which as of this year is named after Celtics legend John Havlicek.

After being acquired in a July deal that sent Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, Juwan Morgan, and a 2023 first round draft pick to Indiana, Brogdon stepped right in and provided the Celtics with that scoring presence they lacked off the bench in 2022.

Brogdon came off the bench for all 67 games he played, averaging 26 minutes per night. In that time he put up 14.9 points per game, which ranked third on the Celtics behind only Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Brogdon shot 48.4 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent from three, and also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Brogdon is the third player to win Sixth Man of the Year in Celtics franchise history. He joins Kevin McHale (1984, 1985) and Bill Walton (1986).

Of course, Brogdon and the Celtics have much bigger goals in their sights than the Sixth Man of the Year trophy. The team's quest for Banner 18 continues Friday night, when their series against the Hawks flips to Atlanta. Coverage begins at 6:30 on 105.7 WROR and the Sports Hub BetMGM Celtics Radio Network, as the C's look to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
