Perhaps a Matty Beniers goal scored just 40 seconds into puck drop of a showdown between the Bruins and Kraken should have told us what we were in for Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena.

Because for the 59 minutes and 20 seconds that followed, the Kraken and Bruins traded bangs and equalizers at a rate that made your head spin before Jake DeBrusk finally capped a late-game comeback with a tip through Seattle’s Philipp Grubauer with 1:38 remaining in the third period of a 6-5 win for the Bruins.

With the win, the Bruins captured their fifth straight victory, and served up some sweet revenge for the Kraken handing the team their first home regulation loss of the season back in January.

  • In a game that featured 11 different goal scorers between the two sides, the time between response tallies was something out of a video game.

When Vince Dunn put the Kraken up 1:17 into the first period, David Pastrnak knotted things up just 1:06 later.

When Brad Marchand gave their Bruins their first lead of the night at the 8:49 mark of the second period, Jamie Oleksiak brought the sides back even a mere 58 seconds later.

And when Patrice Bergeron scored a shorthanded marker to set the Bruins up for a 4-3 lead through 40 minutes of play, Yanni Gourde said ‘nuh-uh’ with another Seattle equalizer, this one scored just 1:02 after the Bergeron tally.

That was just in the second period, too.

  • The madness did not stop after two periods of play.

A four-on-four goal from the Kraken’s Jaden Schwartz looked like it could have been enough to turn the lights off on the Bruins, as they were left with just 4:10 to make something happen.

But in a game like this, we should’ve have known better.

Naturally, the game-tying goal followed, and from an absolutely unlikely source, as Brandon Carlo activated to the left of the Seattle net and tipped a Hampus Lindholm pass through Grubauer for the goal that made it 5-5, and just 29 seconds after Schwartz’s attempted lullaby on Jeremy Swayman & Co.

And then came the DeBrusk tip, which was a ridiculous tip of a Charlie McAvoy shot, just 2:03 later.

  • The DeBrusk goal, which was his third in as many games since returning from a 17-game absence, would prove to be enough, as Swayman finished with a season-high 36 saves for the victory.

Grubauer, meanwhile, took the loss behind a 27-of-33 effort in the Kraken crease.

For the Bruins, it was their second win in as many trips to Seattle. And oddly enough, the game-winning goal in both those games has been scored by DeBrusk.

The Bruins will return to action Saturday night against the Canucks.
