  • There’s a whole lot of unanswered questions when it comes to the 2022-23 Boston Bruins.

The belief is that Patrice Bergeron will return for a 19th NHL season, and general manager Don Sweeney and the team finally put the pen to paper on a new multi-year extension Monday after over a month of intrigue. Where the team goes from there is anybody’s guess, really, as the Bruins have multiple needs and a few cap space obstacles standing in the way.

Oh, and there’s that whole ‘needing a new head coach‘ thing.

But the Bruins do know when they’ll drop the puck on their 2022 preseason slate, as the team confirmed the dates and times of their six-game fall tune-up Monday.

Preseason showdowns between the Bruins and Flyers are the norm, and 2022 will be no exception. The Bruins are coming off a 2-1-0 record against the Flyers in 2021-22. The Flyers, of course, have made a change of their own behind the bench this summer, with John Tortorella set to take over in Philadelphia.

Another preseason favorite of the Black and Gold, the Rangers are coming off a run to the Eastern Conference Finals. This game will obviously mark the first preseason home game of the fall, which will likely feature more than veterans than the opener in Philly.

Wednesday, October 5 at New York Rangers (7 p.m., Madison Square Garden)

Saturday, October 8 vs. New Jersey Devils (7 p.m., TD Garden)

The timing of this preseason finale puts the NHL closer to a ‘normal’ start to the season from a timing standpoint, with the 2022-23 season currently expected to begin on Oct. 11.
