New England Patriots

On Wednesday, many were surprised to find out that Matt Patricia interviewed with the Broncos for their open defensive coordinator job. In that report, Patricia was described as a “top candidate.”

However, just 12 hours later the Broncos are going in a different direction. As first reported by Fox’s Peter Schrager on Thursday morning, the Broncos are hiring their former head coach Vance Joseph for the job. Joseph has previously also been described as a top candidate, along with former New York Jets head coach and current ESPN commentator Rex Ryan.

  • Now, the uncertainty about Patricia’s 2023 continued. As of the last reported update in late January, he was ““still assessing his future.” It’s believed Patricia may not currently have a contract with the Patriots, as last year was the final year he was still getting paid by the Detroit Lions after getting fired in 2020.

The Patriots will face Joseph and the Broncos in Denver at some point during the 2023 season. The question is, will Patricia be on their sideline?
