NFL Draft expert sends Will Campbell to Patriots in latest mock
The mock drafts have begun for the 2025 NFL Draft, with Mel Kiper Jr. releasing his pre-combine first round predictions.
Kiper has Abdul Carter, Cam Ward, and Travis Hunter going first, second, and third. Kiper predicts the New England Patriots will select Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick. That being said, Kiper also says that the Patriots could trade out of the pick if the board falls this way.
“This is a trade-back spot if something presents itself. Carter and Hunter are off the board, and one of the top two quarterbacks is still available,” Kiper wrote. “I’d bet the Patriots will be getting a few calls if the board falls this way, and I’m sure they’ll be very interested given the holes on their roster.”
Nonetheless, Campbell is an offensive tackle — which is one of the Patriots’ top positions of need. Most people believe Campbell, who played at LSU, is highly talented, but there are concerns regarding his arm length.
“I like Campbell checking a box for New England,” said Kiper. “The Pats were 31st in pass block win rate in 2024 (50.9%) and allowed the league’s fifth-most sacks (52). Campbell has the sound technique to effectively seal off the blind side, but he could also boost this offensive line on the inside if he ultimately fits better at guard.”
Campbell would certainly boost the Patriots’ offensive line, but as Kiper pointed out, if he lacks the desired arm length, he could be better fit as a guard. In that case, using the No. 4 pick would be a massive reach for a guard versus a tackle. Still, if Campbell’s arms are long enough, he could have the talent to be the Patriots’ long-term answer at left tackle.
