Ex-Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt lands with Rams
Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt has found his next job for 2025.
It was reported on Monday afternoon that Van Pelt has joined the Los Angeles Rams as a senior offensive assistant. Van Pelt has filled many roles as coach in the NFL, but most recently he served as the Patriots offensive coordinator in 2024. The Rams will be his seventh NFL team.
The Patriots’ offense under Van Pelt ranked near the bottom of the league in key team stats. The unit only averaged 291.9 yards per game and scored just 30 total touchdowns. However, Van Pelt was credited with getting more out of underwhelming talent and helping develop quarterback Drake Maye.
Van Pelt will head to a Rams team that is aging in one sense, but also has promising young stars to build around. Head coach Sean McVay has always been credited as an offensive genius. Working with him can help boost Van Pelt’s value around the league.
Moreover, players like Puka Nacua have shown a lot of upside to this point. That being said, franchise cornerstones like Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford have both been told by the team to look for possible trades, so the Rams will be revamping, at least a little bit, offensively.
