At least one Patriots coach from last year is staying with the team
The New England Patriots are reportedly bringing back special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer, who joined the team last year.
To wrap up last week, the big news regarding the New England Patriots was which coaches from the 2024 staff would not be returning in 2025. This week started with one coach who will.
On Monday afternoon, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Patriots are retaining special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer. Springer is the first coach to be confirmed to be returning under new head coach Mike Vrabel.
Springer, 35, joined the Patriots last year as a first-time NFL special teams coordinator. In his first season, the Patriots’ special teams unit ranked second in the league according to PFF.
With Springer staying, assistant special teams coordinator Tom Quinn could have a chance to stay too. Quinn already is familiar with the new coaching staff – he was the Titans’ special teams coordinator under Vrabel before he joined the Patriots.

While Springer is staying, two more members of the 2024 staff was confirmed to be moving on on Monday. The Cincinnati Bengals announced that they’ve hired offensive line coach Scott Peters and assistant offensive line coach Michael McCarthy to the same roles for 2025.
The offensive line was a weak spot for the Patriots last year. However, that was as much about roster talent as it was anything else. Only five offensive linemen who were on the field at training camp were on the final roster at the end of the season, as the team used 12 different starting offensive line combinations (not including in-game lineup changes, which happened in eight games), and 24 players overall.

Peters’ departure follows the news on Friday of multiple other offensive assistants departing. The only coaches on offense who have not been confirmed to be leaving are offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney, assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler, and senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo. No offensive coaches are confirmed to be staying.
This is setting up for the Patriots to have a rebuilt offensive coaching staff in 2025. The first step to that will be naming an offensive coordinator. Last week, the team interviewed two coaches for that position.
