Lions Top Undefeated Chiefs in Albert Breer’s NFL Power Rankings
On Toucher & Hardy this morning, Albert Breer sparked some debate by naming the Detroit Lions as the best team in the NFL right now—even with the Kansas City Chiefs boasting an undefeated record. Breer’s reasoning? He believes Detroit is playing the most complete, consistent football across the board.
Fred Toucher dug in right away, asking, “The Chiefs haven’t lost a game—how do you put the Lions ahead of them?” Breer explained that while Kansas City has been winning, they’ve looked shaky in close matchups and have relied heavily on Patrick Mahomes to bail them out. “They have Mahomes magic, sure, but the Lions are firing on all cylinders right now,” Breer argued. “They’re balanced, and they’re not winning games by the skin of their teeth—they’re dominating both sides of the ball.”

Breer highlighted Detroit’s defense, which has been one of the most physical and disciplined in the league, and pointed to Jared Goff’s standout season leading the offense. He emphasized that, unlike Kansas City, Detroit hasn’t shown any major weaknesses that could trip them up in critical moments. “If the Lions stay healthy, I honestly don’t see a team in the NFC that can outmatch them,” Breer said, noting how consistent Detroit has been week after week, showing fewer signs of trouble or reliance on late-game heroics.
Toucher, still skeptical, reminded listeners that Kansas City always finds a way to win and has been here before in high-stakes situations. But Breer held his ground, explaining that the Lions’ depth and balance make them the strongest contender right now: “The Chiefs are amazing, no question, but if I’m looking at who’s truly playing the best football at this moment? It’s Detroit.”
