Zolak & Bertrand: Will the Patriots be buyers at the trade deadline?
On Thursday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, the crew discussed whether the Patriots will be buyers at the trade deadline.
Why it could make sense…
Marc Bertrand:
You think the Patriots could be buyers at the deadline?
Scott Zolak:
Not for anybody big, but yeah, you could be buyers at the deadline to help bolster your roster. You’re running out of people. You need bodies.
Marc Bertrand:
Yeah, I could see it, but I don’t see them actually spending any real capital and getting real players. What’s the point of that? Are you going to pay good prices now or going to pay better prices in the offseason?
Scott Zolak:
It’s like you’re not getting a pipe fix, you’re calling flex seal to just spray it on and just temporarily, you know, put a Band-Aid on it.
Tim McKone:
How many options are you going to have though, in terms of good receivers becoming available?
Marc Bertrand:
Very few.
Tim McKone:
So, if there’s one that you can snag now…
Marc Bertrand:
That’s going into free agency? As a rental?
Tim McKone:
Like should they have kicked the tires on guys that have gone or is there another wide receiver that shakes loose here that might have term on their deal that you can snag? I would be open to that. Absolutely. Absolutely you should be.
Tom Morgan:
He’s not a receiver, but I’d like to see them do like a Kyle Van Noy type of trade where they get a guy and then he ends up being a foundational piece. Not specifically that position, but just that type of guy.
Marc Bertrand:
OK, so another team’s disappointing former top pick, who is a few years into his deal and the team is willing to move off of him for a 3rd round pick.
