The Patriots Home Field Advantage Is Gone
The Patriots have a new hope in Drake Maye, who threw for three touchdowns in his rookie debut on Sunday at Gillette stadium. The hopeful performance hides the fact the Patriots lost and also lost another game at home. They have now lost seven in a row at Gillette after the 41-21 loss to the Texans yesterday to fall to 1-5 on the season and winless at home in three games. I use to bet on the Patriots simply because they were playing at home, now I am hoping to take the road favorite by a touchdown or more. The Texans were -6.5 point favorites at kickoff.
Teams have been coming into the New England over the last 5 years excited to play a team that no longer has number 12. Even with Bill Belichick on the sideline, the Patriots went 14-20 since 2020. The record is even worse if you look at the last two seasons where they are now 1-10 at Gillette. With Jerod Mayo starting his career at home 0-3, the Patriots are 14-23 since Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay. Gillette Stadium was somewhere teams didn’t want to play for over 20 years. Brady went 121-20 playing at the Razor, although lost in his final game, a playoff loss to the Titans. The mystique is gone! We will never see a run again where a team wins at home 86% of the time.
The New England Patriots have the highest winning percentage at home in NFL history, with an 83.3% win rate. The Patriots have five games remaining at home this season. They will host the Jets, Rams, Colts, Chargers and Bills. The last home win was against Buffalo in 2023 when they upset the Bills 35-23. Maye will continue to develop, but winning at home will show team progression. Something they have not shown through six games this season. The Patriots will go across season and take on Jacksonville.
