Bruins place defenseman on waivers
With both cap space and roster limits an issue ahead of Saturday’s matinee head-to-head with Los Angeles, the Bruins placed defenseman Ian Mitchell on waivers Friday afternoon.
Mitchell, now in his second season with the Bruins, had opened the year as a non-roster injured player after he was injured in Monday’s practice down in Florida. Mitchell was back on the ice for Friday’s practice at Warrior Ice Arena with a full bubble visor, and this move to the waiver wire was an absolute inevitability once he was fully healthy and back on the ice.
A right-shot, Mitchell put up two assists, a plus-6 rating, and 13 blocked shots in 13 games with the Bruins last year, and totaled six goals and 24 points in 42 games with AHL Providence.
The Bruins’ decision to put Mitchell on waivers comes with the aforementioned need for a roster spot, and with a Matt Poitras return around the corner after he was a participant in Friday’s practice.
