Albert Breer: I don’t agree with Drake Maye starting against the Texans
On Thursday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Albert Breer of SI and MMQB explained why doesn’t agree with the decision to start Drake Maye against the Texans.
It’s about the spot…
Albert Breer:
I think it’s weird timing. Like I don’t agree with the timing. Throwing him out there against Will Anderson and Neil Hunter and that pass rush…
Marc Bertrand:
Whose fault is it?
Albert Breer:
This didn’t happen overnight and I don’t know who pushed the button. But I assume it’s Jerod Mayo. It’s hard not to look at this and say the team needs a spark and I look at this the same way I look at the Jets decision to throw Robert Saleh overboard when they did. It’s like. A lot of people in the Jets organization right now are asking the question… What is this going to accomplish? If they get beat down by Buffalo on Monday night, then what? You know? But that’s the way I look at that decision. And I look at this the same way. If you’re doing this to create a spark, if you’re doing this because the kid is creating some excitement in practice, and then they get there you know what knocked in on Sunday against Houston, then what?
Marc Bertrand:
I’m having a hard time squaring what you’re saying right now with this tweet.
Albert Breer:
Why?
Marc Bertrand:
You said he became the team’s best option at quarterback. You said momentum has been pushing in this direction for a few weeks. His footwork and knowledge of defenses has grown consistently. His work against the blitz has jumped recently. This didn’t happen overnight. So, if all those things are true, then why is it a weird decision? He’s the best option at QB. You said it yourself.
Albert Breer:
That’s independent of the spot you’re putting him in.
