Felger & Mazz: Who are we spite rooting for in the 2024 MLB playoffs?
Who are Felger and Mazz “spite” rooting for in the 2024 MLB Playoffs?
Felger: Who should we root for to get maximum spite? Like who winning makes the Red Sox look the worst? Who’s our team to make the Red Sox look the worst?
Mazz: So I’ve got about five of them.
Felger: Great.
Jim Murray: There’s no shortage.
Mazz: OK, I came up with a list of about five. And I think we can debate what order you put them in, but Philadelphia and Dave Dombrowski?
Felger: Ohh, I think that’s got to be #1.
Mazz: And that’s a team that has spent money, built that team like the whole thing….
Felger: Let’s go Phils. Unless they’re against the Brewers. Let’s go Phils! #1A?
Mazz: Detroit.
Felger: Why?
Mazz: Because it didn’t take much to get in. That’s why. It didn’t take much. All you had to do was beat the freaking Tigers. That’s it. You said that could be you.
Felger: Let me tell you why I want the Tigers….Because I hear this every year where the Red Sox are middling or they have a bad record and you’re in July or June or July and you say “they’re not going anywhere. Look at the record”, and I try and tell you dummies, every single year I tell you that baseball has become just make the tournament. Baseball has become get hot at the end of the year and you have a chance every single year. There are teams that come out of nowhere or at worse, the middle of the pack, and go on a run, make the postseason, and the next thing you know, they’re playing for a championship. And it happens every year.
Jim Murray: I mean the Royals, Mets and Tigers are already proving your point yesterday. They’re one win away from going to the divisional rounds.
Felger: Last year it was Arizona. The year before it was Philly. Every year, there’s that final wild card. I know Murray used to dump on it, but no more. Anyone who dumps on that final wild card. You don’t get it. You don’t know the sport.
