Marc Bertrand: Jacoby Brissett is playing for his job against the 49ers
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand made it clear that Jacoby Brissett is playing for his job against the 49ers.
It seems like Mayo is pushing for Maye at this point…
Marc Bertrand:
So, I do think this weekend Jacoby Brissett’s playing for his job. I think that’s what started. I thought the clock started a couple of weeks ago and I think now you’re at a point where you’re in Week 4, so every single week he’s got to play well or else he’s going to get benched.
Scott Zolak:
Then it becomes a distraction if he’s not playing well, and the kid isn’t playing. That’s where it gets dangerous for Jerod Mayo. I don’t think he wants to get to that point because I think there have been indicators that he’s pushing for Maye. Now he’s not openly doing that, but like I said the other day on our show, you go back to mid mid-August and Mayo admitted Mayo outplayed Brissett the last two weeks of camp. So, there it is starting to already, you know, get churning in his mind that there’s progress being made and he’s looking more comfortable with the 30% reps. They keep talking about that. I would expect maybe 35-40% here at some point. Then you evaluate the game this week, I think the Thursday night game gave them a chance to really sit back and look at some things and maybe a lot of it was on Alex Van Pelt trying to run play action early in that game and not established a run and that really hurt Brissett. For Brissett to succeed, you need to run the ball.
