Have we seen the best of Jayson Tatum?
As the Boston Celtics get set to defend their championship in the 2024-25 season, Felger wonders if we’ve seen the best of Jayson Tatum and if that was a good thing for the team during their 2024 title run.
Felger: Do you think we’ve seen the best of Jayson Tatum?
Mazz: No.
Felger: I wonder if we might’ve. I wonder if we might’ve and oh by they way, in the same breathe, I think that’s good for you. I think the thing that cleared the deck for you last year is that Tatum may have taken a half step back which allowed Jaylen Brown to take a full step forward and at the end of the day you’re a better team because of it. And I said it during the year going into the playoffs that the one thing standing in their way is that Tatum would try to be too much, would try to take over too much, and I don’t know if he’s that guy. And I think from a team context, you’re better with Tatum not being that guy.
Felger: But just that in a vacuum….you tell me, have we seen the best of Jayson Tatum? I meam, is he capable of more? That’s a different question. But what are we going to get from him? Did he peak two years ago and is he just sort of off that pinnacle and he’s not going to get back there? I don’t know. I think that’s another thing I’d like to explore.
