Would you rather be the Patriots or the Steelers?
Felger, Mazz, and Jim Murray discuss whether they’d rather be the New England Patriots or the Pittsburgh Steelers with their current quarterback situations.
Felger: Let me ask you again….Who would you rather be, the Patriots or the Steelers?
Mazz: Steelers.
Jim Murray: I’d rather be the Patriots.
Felger: I’d rather be the Steelers.
Mazz: So again, the quarterback part of it is a big part of the discussion, but I liked Justin Fields before he ended up in Pittsburgh.
Felger: Murray let me ask you, who would you rather be the Bears or the Steelers?
Jim Murray: The Bears.
Felger: The Bears?
Jim Murray: Because I still think there’s unknown and upside with Caleb Williams. The Steelers for me personally are a bad example because I know what their ceiling is. When’s the last time that team had a conference championship? And I don’t think Justin Fields is the answer. You can only get so far in really good defense and good coaching. Tomlin’s a great coach. That they’re 3-0 is great for them. I just don’t think that they have a high ceiling.
Mazz: And I get that. I mean again, Caleb Williams’s talent is off the charts. I get it. This is part of the reason I hesitate.
Felger: He’s just another kid thrown behind another bad team. It’s not going to work.
Mazz: Of course. But you acknowledge that he has unique ability.
Felger: Sure.
Mazz: So that’s what you’re betting on. I mean, Drake Maye is not that much different.
Felger: But it takes more than that.
Mazz: No, no, I’m not saying that. But that’s where you start. You start with the requisite level of talent. So to Murray’s point, like Fields is only going to get probably get so far. I think. But with Maye and Williams, because of the raw ability, there’s a chance that those guys will both turn into prolific passers. So I get that logic. I just had a higher opinion of Fields than he did.
