Patriots place edge rusher on IR, sign replacement
The New England Patriots made a pair of roster moves on Thursday, signing edge rusher Jamree Kromah with Oshane Ximines going on IR.
The New England Patriots announced a pair of roster moves on Wednesday afternoon. Edge rusher Oshane Ximines was placed on IR, and to fill his roster spot the team signed free agent defensive end Jamree Kromah off the Chicago Bears’ practice squad.
Ximines, 27, was signed by the Patriots this spring. He had a strong training camp to lock up a spot on the initial 53-man roster. Through two games this year he made one tackle, playing 12 percent of the team’s defensive snaps and 56 percent of the special teams snaps.
Ximines left this past Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks early with a knee injury, and didn’t practice this week. The team had already ruled him out for Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
Kromah, 24, is a rookie out of James Madison who initially signed with the Bears as a UDFA. In four preseason games this year the 6-foot-4, 275-pound defensive end recorded three tackles. He also played a bit on the punt return team.
The Patriots’ roster remains full at 53 players after these moves. The team does have two open practice squad spots.
