Bertrand: It’s a Bill Belichick Operation With a Different Voice
On Tuesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, the guys discussed the Patriots performance in the team’s 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon. This led to Marc Bertrand making the point that due to the style that the Patriots played with and how it resembled a Bill Belichick-led team, the gameday operation for the team will be the same, but it just has a different personality leading the way.
Watch it Here!
“No One Expected This….”
Bertrand: It’s going to chase him. The (Coaching) staff carried over, and the front office carried over. This a Bill (Belichick) operation with the new guy running it. It’s a Bill operation with a better personality at the top. I don’t even say that jokingly. It’s what it is.
Zolak: That’s a fact. Yeah.
Bertrand: But did you think that it was going to look like that? That’s the part that I think is the story. What they’re saying is right. You know, no one expected this. No one thought this could happen. I would agree, most people did not think that game was going to look as good as it looked for them.
Zolak: In all three phases.
Bertrand: In terms of the things hat they can control, right? Their talent is deficient, still, especially on offense, as we saw on Sunday.
Zolak: But that’s what they offered (Brandon) Aiyuk that money.
Bertrand: But in terms of taking care of business, I didn’t expect it to look that good in that buttoned up, and that disciplined.
Zolak: The communication on defense was phenomenal. Multiple looks every snap. There are times it felt like everybody’s coming and then they drop seven, they drop eight, they throw 6 DB’s in, then they throw three safeties in. It’s something different every snap. There were no personnel problems as far 12 men on the field. We were kind of expecting that. The way things unraveled down in Washington, my God. But no, there was just so much uncertainty in here, especially on the offensive. We have confidence in the defense that they’re going to show up. But you still lost (Christian) Barmore and (Matthew) Judon. People are still leery on how good (Christian) Gonzalez is going to be. He was really good the other day.
