Patriots announce practice squad elevations for season opener
The New England Patriots announced on Saturday they are elevating Michael Jordan and Trysten Hill from the practice squad for their Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
At the start of the week, New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo talked about how his team would need to “control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball” against the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener on Sunday. The team’s two practice squad elevations, announced on Saturday afternoon, reflect that approach.
One elevation will be guard Michael Jordan. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise – with projected starting guard Sidy Sow not practicing this week, Jordan saw extended time with the top offensive line at practice. Sow has since been ruled out for the game, meaning Jordan could be in line to start, or at least rotate with backup guard/center Nick Leverett. Jordan was in New England throughout the summer, but released during final roster cuts before being re-signed to the practice squad.
The Patriots also elevated defensive tackle Trysten Hill. Hill, like Jordan, was with the Patriots all summer before being released during roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad. Hill will give the Patriots another interior pass rush option along with Daniel Ekuale and Jeremiah Pharms.
Both teams also made other personnel announcements earlier on Saturday. Safety Jabrill Peppers was added to the Patriots’ injury report as questionable for Sunday with a hip injury. On the Bengals’ side, Ja’Marr Chase is now listed with an illness. He was already listed as questionable coming into the game after being limited at practice all week (Chase is looking for a new contract and held in this summer). The rest of the injury report remained unchanged from Friday.
Kickoff between the Patriots on Bengals on Sunday is set for 1:00 p.m. ET from Paycor Stadium. Coverage of the game can be heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub and the Patriots Radio Network, starting at with pregame coverage at 10:00.
