‘Pat Patriot’ throwbacks will return for two games in 2024
The New England Patriots throwback uniforms will return for two games in 2024.
It’s been three years since the NFL got rid of the ‘One Shell Rule‘ that prevented teams from having an alternate helmet that was a different color from their primary one. The Patriots have taken advantage of that each of the last two years by bringing back their red ‘Pat Patriot’ throwback uniforms. On Wednesday, the team announced those uniforms will return for a third year in a row, and be worn twice in 2024.
Their first appearance will be Week 6, against the Houston Texans. The team will then wear them again Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Throwback weeks have gone beyond the uniforms for the Patriots since 2022. Those games have included widespread throwback branding, including painting Pat Patriot at midfield with throwback endzones.
For this season, the Pat Patriot throwbacks are the only official alternate uniform for the Patriots. The past two years the team has also occasionally worn silver pants instead of blue with their primary home uniforms, but those changes have mainly been treated as surprises, announced a day before the game or on gameday.
