On Wednesday's edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc "Beetle" Bertrand explained why he wants Drake Maye to scamper and not run.

Don't be Josh Allen or Cam Newton...

Marc Bertrand:

I just want to say, I do appreciate Drake Maye’s ability to run, but if he becomes Josh Allen, that is a massive, massive mistake that would be really dumb.

Scott Zolak:

He doesn't have his size.

Marc Bertrand:

No. It's also a great way to get hurt and not, you know, focus on being a quarterback first.

Scott Zolak:

I would want him to be a runner like Patrick Mahomes. He avoids and gets out of danger but knows how to go down and knows how to get out of bounds. I don't want him to be Cam Newton or Josh Allen. Those guys are too similar as far as them being big and burly and I'll run you over to get the one yard and I'll dive over the pile. No, don't do that. Get what you can and get down. Do what Mahomes does. Do what Aaron Rogers does. Rogers moves well within the pocket. He'll slide up in man coverage, pick up five yards and get down. I don't want Drake Maye running all over the place.

Marc Bertrand:

Yeah, I don't want him to be a runner. I want him to scamper. Does that make sense? Like I want him to break your back on 3rd down. That's what I want him to do. I want you to be very frustrated when all of a sudden he takes off and picks up the first down and you are pissed. I want the scamper. I don't need the runner. I don't need him taking the ball and running with it. No thank you. Doesn't Aaron Rodgers kind of have that thing down a little bit? I don't need you to be a runner. I don't need you to be Josh Allen. I do need you to use it every now and again. I need the threat.

Patriots finish filling out practice squad

The Patriots made two more practice squad signings on Monday, filling out the unit.

As the Patriots get ready for their first game week of the 2024 season, they'll do so with a full practice squad. The filled the final two spots on Monday, announcing the signings of linebackers Joe Giles-Harris and Yvandy Rigby.

Giles-Harris spent all of last year with the Patriots on the practice squad, and didn't appear in a game. Back with the team this summer he had a strong preseason, but was let go during final roster cuts. He's entering his sixth NFL season, with stops in Jacksonville and Buffalo where he played primarily on special teams.

Rigby is a UDFA out of Temple who spent the offseason with the Ravens, who signed him following the draft in May. In three preseason games in Baltimore he made 18 tackles on 104 defensive snaps, playing mostly in coverage against the pass.

With these signings, the Patriots' practice squad is now full. They have the maximum of 16 players, plus defensive end Jotham Russell who doesn't count against the total as a member of the NFL's International Pathway Program.
