Felger: The Bruins should’ve kept Ullmark and traded Swayman
The Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are still yet to agree to a new contract as the start of Training Camp inches closer. On Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger gave his thoughts on Swayman.
Felger: Sweeney has pointed out that Swayman took the Bruins to arbitration. And given this report about his current demands (from Rich Keefe), I’m willing to give the Bruins that one. The Bruins don’t cheap out on their own players anymore. That’s not what they do. They don’t sign everybody. If they don’t want you they don’t sign you. They didn’t want Torey Krug. They didn’t sign him. But they didn’t cheap out. They overpay their own guys now. Pastrnak’s overpaid. McAvoy is overpaid. Hampus Lindholm is overpaid. They overpay their guys and they’ve been doing this now for a while, so I don’t think they’re cheaping out on Jeremy Swayman. I think Jeremy Swayman and his agents are effed in the head.
Felger: The resentment. Oh my God guy. Jesus. The resentment from the arbitration and the endless efforts in doing what you do best. Ohh, come on. Because you work hard? Like welcome to the NHL. Does that describe every single player in that league or pro sports? Holy crap. So he’s still resentful of the arbitration, but why? You ever think that your agents were asking for too much money? $10 million a year. Eff out of here with that. I’d trade him yesterday. And I told you this over and over again. I wish I would have thought of it sooner. And it is revisionist history because I had no use for Linus Ullmark. But they should have kept Linus Ullmark and traded this guy and had one last year with Ullmark.
