Greg Bedard of BostonSportsJournal.com joined Felger and Mazz on Tuesday to discuss the latest with the New England Patriots. While on, Bedard did his 3 up and 3 down from Patriots training camp.
3 UP
Keion White
Greg Bedard: In the games he’s sort of bullied second and third stringers, which he should do. He also showed really well in camp. I think he’s part of the reason why Matthew Judon is not here anymore and now we need to see what he does in the regular season.
Layden Robinson
Greg Bedard: It wasn’t great the other night, but as a whole the camp he had in the one-on-one drills, he had the best stats. I think he was 9-1-1 during the summer. He showed really well in the first two preseason games. He’s pushing for a starting spot and I’ll be interested to see, you know, can he improve on some of the mistakes he had in this last games.
Drake Maye
Greg Bedard: Just for what he’s done over the last 2 1/2 weeks. He’s checked every box, he’s gotten more and more comfortable, he’s been much more decisive. You can see it in his throwing motion. When he sees it and he anticipates he doesn’t have the hitch as much and he just lets it go. I do think that there’s a little bit of fool’s gold there that, especially like that out that he threw for the touchdown to Kevin Harris. That works against second stringers in the preseason, but do that in a regular season game and it’s probably going the other way. He threw three hospital balls the other night, too but as a whole he keeps checking off boxes and his improvement has been tremendous these last 2 1/2 weeks.
3 DOWN
Charles Turner
Greg’s answer as to why Turner was a “down” was cut off because Felger and Mazz had never heard of the guy.
Marcellas Dial
Greg Bedard: He started off pretty well, but man he was horrendous in these last two preseason games.
Atonio Mafi
Felger stopped allowing Greg to name his downs due to underwhelming choices for his first two.
