Patriots claim wide receiver off waivers, place another on injured reserve
The New England Patriots have made a fresh addition at wide receiver.
As announced by the team Tuesday afternoon, they’ve claimed wide receiver Matt Landers off waivers. As a corresponding move, they’re placing wideout JaQuae Jackson on injured reserve.
Landers, 25, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. He played college ball at Arkansas. Landers spent time with the San Antonio Brahmas in the UFL in 2024, then later with Cleveland Browns this summer, before being waived on Monday.

Jackson suffered a serious leg injury during last Thursday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He needed to be carted off the field, then was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. Jackson had scored a receiving touchdown on a pass from rookie quarterback Joe Milton III in the Patriots’ preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Landers stands at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, immediately making him the tallest receiver on the Patriots. He’ll be a longshot to make the 53-man roster, but the Pats will get a good look at him over the next week and determine whether he could be a practice squad candidate.
